Is It Anxiety, Intuition, or Premonition?
Is It Anxiety, Intuition, or Premonition?
How to Discern the Difference — Especially During Life’s Storms
🌿 Not every whisper in your mind is anxiety.
🌿 Not every tug in your chest is intuition.
🌿 Not every knowing is a blessing.
Sometimes, it’s something deeper still.
A quiet, solemn call rising from the marrow of your being:
Premonition.
Over the past 18 months, this has been one of my most profound lessons.
It’s not a lesson learned from theory.
It’s a lesson I learned in my bones.
I learned it while lying awake at night, sensing storms I couldn’t name.
I learned it as my body, my career, my relationships — all began to shift.
You see, even before my pregnancy, I ran bloodwork.
I wasn’t unwell at the time, but there was something quiet and persistent in me that said: prepare.
Despite clear tests, my body soon began to spiral into a storm of its own: severe morning sickness, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, liver and kidney distress.
My career, once a place of success, had begun to feel unstable. I saw reckless decisions and ignored warnings. I quietly saved money, just in case. And then — during maternity leave — I was restructured out of my role, despite being a top performer.
Friendships and family ties that had already begun to cool turned to ice. The slow freeze became undeniable just as I needed them the most.
At first, I questioned myself:
Was this just anxiety?
Was this intuition trying to speak?
Was this something else altogether?
And I doubted — as many of us do.
We’re taught that if we think about something enough, we’ll manifest it.
We’re told to fear our thoughts.
To dismiss our deep senses as paranoia.
To write it off as overthinking.
But I want you to know:
There is a difference between chronic worry and deep knowing.
This wasn’t restless fear.
It wasn’t shallow panic.
This was premonition — something slower, deeper, and ancient.
Let’s unfold this together.
⸻
🌑 Descent Energy: Where Premonition Lives
Descent energy is not fear.
It’s not avoidance.
It’s not dread.
It is the ancient awareness that what is is shifting into what was.
It is the in-between. The quiet before the ending.
It’s the moment when the leaves begin to blush with autumn gold — before they fall.
It’s the chill in the wind when the sun still shines warm.
It’s the gathering of clouds before the downpour.
It’s not imagination.
It’s not paranoia.
It’s a felt sense — a quiet alert that change is arriving, even if it has not yet appeared.
Descent energy is a naturally attuned state of being.
It’s the energy of the waning moon.
It’s the energy of autumn.
It’s the moment when the veil begins to thin — not just in folklore, but in your body, your senses, your instincts.
When we enter descent energy, our perception sharpens.
Our inner sight grows clearer as the external light dims.
We become sensitive to the undercurrents of life, to the subtle shifts that others overlook.
And this is where premonition is born.
Premonition is the voice of descent energy.
It is the clarity we feel not because we are afraid — but because we are present.
Attuned.
Awake.
⸻
🌿 Anxiety vs. Intuition vs. Premonition: Understanding the Waters and Winds
To understand these three energies, we must understand their nature:
🌬 Anxiety is the restless wind of the mind.
Thoughts swirl, fear builds, patterns of past pain take over.
It sounds like: What if?
It feels urgent, noisy, and chaotic.
🌊 Intuition is the deep, steady current of the heart.
It is calm. Quiet. It does not rush or push.
It feels like: What is.
It is a present-moment knowing, not driven by fear.
🌅 Premonition is the horizon — where wind meets water.
It is the stillness between anxiety and intuition.
It holds the wisdom of patterns but not the panic.
It holds the calm of intuition, but with an inevitability that feels destined.
Premonition feels like: What is unfolding.
Premonition carries the best of both:
— the sharp pattern recognition of anxiety
— the quiet, guiding presence of intuition
but it removes the panic and replaces it with reverent awareness.
It feels like:
“I see the clouds gathering.”
“The wind is shifting direction.”
“I feel the tide turning, even if the waves have not yet reached the shore.”
⸻
🧭 How to Discern Between the Three
To truly understand what you are sensing, ask yourself:
1. Is this pattern recognition — or pure chaos?
Anxiety often creates patterns where none exist.
Premonition recognizes real patterns, subtle signs, and behavioral shifts over time.
2. Does this feel loud and scattered — or quiet and deep?
Anxiety is noisy, demanding your attention.
Intuition and premonition feel rooted. Steady. Trustworthy.
3. What arises when I sit in stillness?
Quiet your environment and your thoughts.
If the fear subsides, it was likely anxiety.
If clarity remains or sharpens, it is more likely intuition or premonition.
4. Am I tapping into descent energy?
Ask yourself:
— Am I noticing small endings?
— Are things shifting in subtle, inevitable ways?
— Am I feeling a natural release or letting go?
Descent energy sharpens our senses, and through it, premonition speaks.
⸻
🕯️ How to Work with Each Energy
When you recognize anxiety:
🌬️ Soothe your nervous system.
Breathe deeply. Calm the wind of thought.
When you sense intuition:
🌊 Trust the current. Follow its guidance.
When you feel premonition:
🌅 Prepare, not from fear, but from respect for the cycles of life.
Let it guide you toward wisdom-led action, not panic-driven reaction.
⸻
Closing Reflection: Be the Lighthouse
Anxiety is the storm’s wind.
Intuition is the water beneath your boat.
Premonition is the horizon — the meeting place of wind and water.
But you —
You are the lighthouse.
You do not stop the storm.
You do not command the tides.
But you stand steady in your knowing.
You hold the light to guide yourself home.
No matter the winds. No matter the waves.
You have what you need to navigate
Is It Anxiety, Intuition, or Premonition?
How to Tell the Difference — Especially in Times of Change
Not every inner whisper is anxiety.
Not every warning is fear.
Not every knowing is intuition.
Sometimes, it’s something deeper still —
A quiet call from within: a premonition.
Over the last 18 months, this has been the defining lesson of my life.
A lesson not learned from books, but from the marrow of my experience.
There was a time when my senses felt on overdrive:
Despite being healthy, I felt an unshakable unease about my pregnancy. I ran extra tests, checked everything, but no clear answers emerged. And yet, my body unraveled — severe morning sickness, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and kidney and liver strain.
My once-steady career began to tremble. I noticed quiet signs of instability and poor leadership decisions, so I saved what I could to build a safety net — and while on maternity leave, when I thought I’d be safe, my company restructured. I was left without a job.
Friendships and family connections, once warm, began to frost over. Small microaggressions piled up, but I hoped they would thaw. Instead, they froze completely in my most vulnerable season.
At the time, I asked myself:
Was this my anxiety talking?
Was this intuition quietly whispering?
Or… was I sensing something inevitable? A deeper knowing?
Now I understand.
What I was sensing was what I now call Descent Energy — the current beneath the surface of life that tells us when things are shifting before they’re visible to the eye.
⸻
Descent Energy: Where Premonition Lives
We see it in nature:
The leaves begin to turn before they fall.
The chill of autumn arrives even while the sun is still warm.
Descent energy is not yet darkness, but not full light either.
It is the transition — the space between what was and what will be.
In many spiritual traditions, we know this as the energy of the waning moon, the time leading up to Samhain, when the veil is said to be thin. But the truth is:
This energy lives in us, too.
Descent energy is when our inner sight sharpens as external light dims.
It’s when our senses heighten, not in panic, but in preparation.
It’s when we feel the quiet shift, the inevitability of change approaching, even as the world around us carries on unaware.
This is where premonition emerges.
Not as panic.
Not as passive knowing.
But as an intimate union of subtle awareness and future sensing.
Premonition is the meeting place of water and wind:
The steady current of intuition stirred by the restless winds of change.
⸻
How to Recognize the Three
Let’s break it down.
🌬 Anxiety — The Fast, Noisy Wind of Thought
• It tugs urgently at your nervous system.
• Screams: What if?!
• Rooted in overstimulation of pattern recognition and past trauma.
• Fear of what might happen — but not grounded in truth.
When you’re in anxiety:
Your mind spins stories. Your body feels activated. It’s reactive and consuming.
⸻
🌊 Intuition — The Steady Current Beneath Your Thoughts
• Flows gently, but firmly, like an inner compass.
• Whispers: What is.
• It is grounded, quiet, non-panicked knowing.
• Rooted in presence, attunement to your truth.
When you’re in intuition:
You feel calm clarity. It doesn’t demand urgency — it simply is.
⸻
🌑 Premonition — The Tide Pulling Quietly from Shore
• Feels inevitable, but not rushed.
• Merges anxiety’s pattern recognition with intuition’s wisdom.
• Senses the approach of change, not with fear, but with quiet truth.
Premonition is when descent energy sharpens our awareness. It’s the moment when you sense the currents shifting, even if you can’t yet see the horizon.
When you’re in premonition:
There’s a heavy, grounded knowing that something is coming.
You are not panicked — you are present.
⸻
How to Work With Each Energy
When you feel restless, pause and ask:
1. Am I caught in anxious noise?
→ Calm your system first. Breathe. Ground. Soften the wind of thought so you can hear beneath it.
2. Is this a clear, quiet knowing?
→ Trust your intuition. Listen in stillness.
3. Am I sensing inevitable change?
→ This is premonition. Prepare, but without fear. Let wisdom, not panic, guide you.
Also, ask yourself:
• What patterns am I recognizing?
• Am I feeling the pull of descent energy — that autumnal current of quiet change?
• Am I forecasting from fear, or sensing from grounded presence?
⸻
Closing Reflection: You Are the Lighthouse
Anxiety, intuition, and premonition are all messengers —
Signals from your body, heart, and spirit trying to prepare you for what’s ahead.
You are not separate from the rhythms of life.
You are the lighthouse amid the storm, shining inward to guide your way.
🌿 Anxiety is the noise of restless winds.
💛 Intuition is the steady stream of the heart’s knowing.
🌑 Premonition is the horizon, where the two meet — water and wind, carrying you safely through the tides of change.
You hold the wisdom to know the difference.
And even in the storm, trust: you will know how to guide yourself home.

Is It Anxiety, Intuition, or Premonition? How to Tell the Difference (Especially in Times of Change)
Not every inner whisper is anxiety.
Not every warning is fear.
Not every knowing is intuition.
Sometimes, it’s something deeper — a quiet call from within: a premonition.
Over the last 18 months, this has been the lesson of my life.
A lesson learned not from books, but from the marrow of experience.
There was a time when my senses were in overdrive:
Despite being healthy, I felt a strange unease about my upcoming pregnancy. I ran extra bloodwork, checked everything I could, but no clear answers came. And yet, my body soon unraveled: severe morning sickness, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, liver and kidney strain.
My career, once steady, was being impacted by internal politics. I noticed the quiet signs of instability and reckless decisions lacking foresight and I saved as much money as I could to hold me over — and then, while on maternity leave when I should have been safe, the company restructured, and I was left without a job.
Friendships and family connections I trusted began to frost over. Little microaggressions over the years seemed to build up, but I thought I could wait it out long enough to recover from pregnancy, but in the height of pregnancy, as I prepare for birth, they froze completely.
At the time, I wondered:
— Was this just my anxiety?
— Was this my intuition trying to speak?
— Or was I sensing something inevitable, something deeper?
Now I understand.
What I was sensing was the quiet, inevitable pull of descent energy.
⸻
Descent Energy: The space where the veil resides (needs better)
There is an energy in our macro and micro world. We plainly now this as autumn, but we see it with the waning moon. It’s a descent into darkness.
It’s so often misunderstood. Darkness bring evil and bad and something to avoid at all costs.
That’s a huge misinterpretation.
The descent into darkness is when we aren’t blinded by external light but our inner sight becomes attuned to the growing darkness.
This is what I call Descent Energy — the space between what is and what was.
It’s not darkness yet, but it’s not full light either.
It’s the moment the leaves begin to turn before they fall.
It’s the chill in the autumn wind that whispers winter is coming, even while the sun still shines.
In descent energy, our senses heighten.
Our body, mind, and spirit become attuned to shifts in the landscape of our lives. We feel the current of change beneath the surface, even if others around us do not.
It is said that Samhain is the day that the veil becomes thin. While that’s true—it’s actually an energy that we can tap into. The descent energy. The waning moon the Samhain energy, the energy where we know things are shifting in our lives. Samhain and the waning moon create that energy at big levels but we can tap into that energy at any time.
This is where premonition lives.
It’s not panic.
It’s not passive knowing.
It is the merging of subtle awareness and future sensing.
Our inner sight growing in conjunction with the growing darkness.
It is the meeting of water and wind — the currents of intuition stirred by the restless winds of change.
⸻
Understanding the Three: Anxiety, Intuition, Premonition
Here’s how I’ve come to understand the difference:
🌬 Anxiety is the fast, noisy wind of thought.
It tugs at your nervous system, urgent and loud. It screams: What if?!
Anxiety is an overstimulation of pattern recognition, deeply rooted in past trauma.
It is fear of what might happen, without grounding in truth.
🌊 Intuition is a steady current beneath your thoughts. Often rooted in the heart space of deep presence.
It flows gently but firmly, like an inner compass guiding you home.
Intuition whispers: What is.
It is attunement to your deepest knowing, free from panic.
🌑 Premonition is the tide pulling away from the shore, pulled by descent energy of the moon, (but descent energy also creates a void? And something needs to fill it), quiet before the wave arrives.
It feels inevitable, but not rushed.
It blends the pattern recognition of anxiety with the deep wisdom of intuition.
It senses the approach of change — not in fear, but in truth.
🖤 Anxiety is the noise of restless thoughts worming like the wind.
💛 Intuition is guidance of the stream of the heart space
🌊 Premonition is the horizon line, where the two meet and like the interplay between the wind and the water, they flow in together in a current.
All are messengers , trying to prepare you for what’s ahead.
⸻
How to Work with Each Energy
When you feel restless, ask:
Is this fear of what might happen (anxiety)?
Is this a quiet knowing of what is true (intuition)?
Or is this a deeper sensing of what is already unfolding (premonition)?
You need to ask yourself more pointed questions:
Am I recognizing patterns if so what are they?
Am I feeling into descent energy? (What are some feeling of descent energy?)
How do I know what I know? Is it from past experience? Is it patterns? Human behavior?
What can I do to prepare? What do I have control over and what don’t I have control over?
🌿 If it’s anxiety:
Soothe your system. Calm the wind so you can hear the deeper currents.
🌿 If it’s intuition:
Trust it. Lean in. It’s guiding you in real time.
🌿 If it’s premonition:
Prepare, with grace. Use what you sense to meet the future not with fear, but with wisdom. Know that you are part of the rhythm, not apart from it.
⸻
Closing Reflection
Anxiety, intuition, and premonition are messengers trying to convey a message.
You are attuned to the rhythm of life, to its ebbs and flows, its waning and waxing.
Your work is to listen, discern, and honor what each is trying to tell you.
And always remember:
You hold the wisdom to know the difference.
Even in the storm where the wind and waters are raging, trust that you are the lighthouse harnessing your inner light.
